With the 75th anniversary of Tamworth Football Club falling in 2008, TFC Supporters' Club realised that the perfect opportunity to tell the history of the club in a unique manner had presented itself.
There has been a Supporters Club in some form since TFC began in 1933, with the present group was formed in 1995, and through various fundraising initiatives over the seasons the Supporters Club has helped fund a number of projects at TFC with the only remit being that any money raised is used in a way that will benefit the fans.
At a time when football at the highest levels seemed to be moving further away from the terraces, the chance to highlight the exploits of the club and thanks to the efforts of previous generations of supporters all the playing statistics were available while local archives always provide a wealth of unearthed or long forgotten information about the club.
Funding for our project was awarded from the Heritage Lottery Fund following an application through formation of a specially created ‘arm’ of the supporters club to comply with the HLF’s strict application requirements. With the main aim of the project is to involve the local community as much as possible.
The book which you can download (right) is a digital version of the 4000 distributed around the town in September 2011 and is only one part of the whole project in which many volunteer hours were spent recording memories.
3,000 packs of Lambs Legends playing cards were also produced and given away for free, a temporary exhibition in the Ankerside Shopping Centre and a showpiece 'Hall Of Fame' event was held at the town's Assembly Rooms where The Mayor and Mayoress, fans, ex-players and officials gathered to celebrate the club's history.
The event was professionally filmed and will be shown in the TFC clubhouse on Thursday October 20, 2011 from 7.00pm. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
A new smaller but semi-permanent exhibition will be housed in the reference area (top floor) of Tamworth Library from Tuesday October 11, 2011.
